Owner David Knight, Inventor of the Cable Lock System
The inventor of the Cable Lock™ system, David Knight, graduated from the engineering program at the University of Houston. Afterwards, he began his career at a geotechnical engineering firm and gained invaluable experience in foundation analysis.
Later, he became registered as a professional engineer in the State of Texas. In 1986, he started an engineering firm with his father. Their company administered more than 4,000 claims for structural and foundation damage through a nationwide structural warranty program for new homes. During that time, David invented the Cable Lock piling system. The first of several patents covering the system was filed in 1992.
The Early Days of Cable Lock Foundation Repair
David's brother, Paul Knight, also a graduate from the UH engineering program, joined the engineering firm in 1993. Working at the family's firm, both David and Paul gained useful experience and knowledge by troubleshooting foundation problems, as well as providing design and soil analysis. In 1996, Paul relocated to Louisiana to act as President of Cable Lock in New Orleans.
In the spring of 1997, the New Orleans location was formed as a Louisiana Corporation with David and Paul as equal shareholders. Under their leadership, as well as the direction of Darren Averitt (general manager), the business became the largest foundation company in the Louisiana. Paul Knight left the company in 2006 to pursue another venture. Cable Lock Foundation Repair is currently owned by David Knight, with minority partners Darren Averitt and Mike Deshazer.
Where We Are Today
Currently, we employ several experienced crews that specialize in repairing foundations for homes and businesses. Cable Lock has the trained staff to provide both prompt and quality services. Every crew has a foreman on site that oversees the work. We are always available to meet the needs and concerns of property owners.
Since it’s humble beginnings, the use of the Cable Lock system has spread from one company to several companies spanning over more than 21 states. Throughout the years, with input from General Manager Darren Averitt and Owner David Knight, we have further developed the Cable Lock piling by modifying them to the extreme soil conditions of Louisiana, especially those in New Orleans and surrounding areas.
